On April 20
th, 2005, on a flight to Los Angeles, I jotted down some notes for a text adventure game. Now, eleven years later, I’m almost done. Obviously, my middle name is not “Speedy."

The game is called
Thaumistry: In Charm's Way. It’s a comic fantasy that uses spells, and is set in modern-day New York City.

In late January I’ll be running a Kickstarter campaign for the game.

My name is Bob Bates and I started writing games for Infocom in 1986. In the 31 years since then I have credits on over 40 published titles as an Indie developer, game designer, programmer, producer, studio head, executive at a multi-national publisher, and independent consultant.

I have twice been elected Chair of the IGDA and have also published the bestselling book “
Game Design: The Art and Business of Creating Games.” In December of 2010 I became the Chief Creative Officer for the external studios of Zynga.
